Neurodegenrative changes in retina of rats with chronic epileptic syndrome under conditions of treatment with niacin-oxy-ethylidene-phosphonate germanate (MIGU-4)

Background:Epilepsy is accompanied by neurodegenerative changes, particularly those in the retina. Elucidation of mechanisms retinal alterations a model epileptic syndrome may allow for development new approaches to pharmacological vision correction. Purpose: To assess morphological characteristics retina, treated with niacin oxy-ethylidene phosphonate germinate (MIGU-4), pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced kindling chronic syndrome. Material and Methods: PTZ was administered Wistar male rats intraperitoneally (i.p.) at daily dose 35.0 mg/kg 21 days. Rats fully-developed generalized seizures were MIGU-4 ip 5.0 or 25.0 28 Thereafter, animals euthanized, their globes enucleated, sections prepared stained hematoxylin eosin examination.
